Holly Ikin, was the very first winner of the Miss Student UK title.Holly, winner of MissStudent 2006/7

Our Miss Student UK 2007 was Holly Ikin. Studying English Language at Manchester, Holly wowed the audience and the judges with her personality, style, knowledge and looks and her flaring which she performed for the Talent round. Holly has relished her role Miss Student UK. She promoted the competition with the utmost enthusiasm and professionalism. Her commitment to the role of Miss Student 2007 has undoubtedly helped develop the competition throughout this year.

Holly is a pleasure to work with and will ALWAYS be a part of the Miss Student family.

In Holly's own words ....
Looking back over the last year, I cannot believe how quickly it has passed. To think that a year ago, I was stood praying that my name might, just might, be called out as the winner is completely unbelievable. I am currently studying English Language and Linguistics at the University of Manchester and so I have to say that being Miss Student has certainly added a little more glamour to my year than I would have had otherwise.

Over the year I have been presented with some fantastic opportunities, from appearing in national newspapers to making appearances at different events – all of which I have thoroughly enjoyed. One of the highlights of my year has been travelling around the country to the different regional competitions. I have loved meeting and getting to know all of the girls who have competed this year and wish them the best of luck. Every regional heat was different and so I never had a dull moment. I would like to thank the girls and the organisers for making the events so memorable. It has been a difficult competition this year and I think that all of the girls have achieved so much in making it to the final. This competition is about being ‘more than just a pretty face’ and I think that all of the contestants encompass this, which is why they deserve to be here. I remember every second of last years final and cannot describe to you what a fantastic (if slightly nerve racking) time that I had. My talent in last years final was flairing, this is throwing cocktail bottles (think Tom Cruise in the film Cocktail) and I have to say that it was one of the most nervous moments of my life. Of course, when you throw bottles, it is highly likely that you might miss and drop them…. Somehow, I caught them all. To this day, I don’t know how! I know exactly how all of the girls are feeling tonight, my advice would be: relax and enjoy yourselves. I have to say that I am slightly reluctant to crown a new winner as I would like to keep the title, but according to the rules, I have no choice in the matter!

I have qualified for the Miss England semi-final which is being held in June 2008 and I hope to make it to the final in July.

So much has changed for me in the year, who knows what the next one will bring! Fingers crossed for me!

I wish the winner for 2008 the best of luck for the next I know that she will have a truly great year.

Holly Ikin
